-How to Enter Formatted Content (Markdown) into WordPress/LinkedIn

I think I finally figured out how to enter formatted content into WordPress (or LinkedIn Articles, which apparently use the WordPress editor) as markdown. I don’t write articles on LinkedIn anymore, so I didn’t really try it there.

Update 23.Dec.2025: I no longer maintain this blog. I publish at:

The WordPress editor can be OK for maintaining formatted content, but really sucks for writers entering content (maybe it works better for marketers). The WordPress Markdown specifically really sucks.

The trick is to create the content in a markdown editor. For example, I use VSCodium to create .md files. When I’m ready to publish, I preview (Ctrl+K,V) and copy the formatted content into WordPress, which maintains most of the formatting.

You can include links to web pages, but not to other markdown files. And you need to paste in any images after pasting in the text.

BTW, WYSIWYG editors in general have always really sucked, and therefor likely always will. While markdown has its quirks, if your content creators can’t figure out markdown, you have other problems. You only need a cheat sheet or a template to help remember less than 20 symbols.

I also add an option to VSCodium to edit .md files in LibreOffice Writer:
